Fire engulfs diesel car as cause remains unclear

It remains unclear what caused a diesel passenger car to catch fire at the intersection of Víðimel and Furumel this morning, mbl.is reported.

The fire service received the call at 8.15am. According to a fire service shift manager, the car was completely engulfed in flames, but firefighters quickly extinguished the blaze.

The vehicle was parked by the street when the fire started. Owners of nearby cars moved their vehicles away.

Police in the capital region have taken over the scene. The car will be removed by Krókur.
