Apprentices are entitled to a tax deduction while on maternity leave because they normally retain their apprenticeship contract, KVF reports.
TAKS reviewed the issue last year in cooperation with the Vocational Education Centre. The centre said that training companies and apprentices usually agree to extend the training period when an apprentice takes maternity leave.
Because the training period is extended, the apprentice still has an apprenticeship contract and is therefore entitled to the deduction during the leave period, according to TAKS.
Member of the Faroese Parliament Kristian Krog Hentze asked Minister Aksel V. Johannesen about the deduction and maternity leave. The deduction is 50,000 kroner.
