Marimedx has received the encouragement award presented by the Fisheries Conference and TM, mbl.is reports.

Company founder and chief executive Svava Kristinsdóttir accepted the award from Metúsalem Hilmarsson of TM. The prize consists of a certificate and the Svifaldan trophy, created by artist Jónas Bragi Jónasson.

Marimedx is a health technology company developing wound-care and tissue-regeneration solutions made from algae.

The other nominees were Nanna Lín, recognised for developing ways to reshape cod and salmon skin into fish leather for use in fashion design, and Rauðátan, for developing new ways to use resources in Icelandic industry.

“With these awards, we want to encourage entrepreneurs and innovators to keep developing new solutions, challenge established practices and ideas, and promote sustainability and the future of fisheries and related industries,” Metúsalem said at the ceremony.
