Guards Jaeger Regiment recruits swear oath at Helsinki Olympic Stadium

Recruits who began their service with Finland’s Guards Jaeger Regiment in July held their military oath and military affirmation ceremony at Helsinki Olympic Stadium on Thursday, Yle reported.

The unusual ceremony was part of the regiment’s 30th anniversary celebrations. The event was open to the public, and Yle streamed the oath ceremony live. The celebrations began at noon.

Colonel Ari Lehmuslehti, commander of the Guards Jaeger Regiment, received the military affirmation, military oath and march-past. Lieutenant Colonel Vesa Volanen, the regiment’s chief of staff, commanded the parade troops.

Jukka-Pekka Ujula, Helsinki’s city manager, led the military affirmation, while Ari Kuokkanen, director of Olympic Stadium, led the military oath.

The Guards Band provided the music for the ceremony. Yle journalist Vesa Marttinen was also present.
