Iceland, Keflavik Airport, nursing homes

Reykjanesbær’s planning council has approved converting two apartment buildings in Ásbrú, near Keilisbraut, into a 90-place nursing home despite an objection from the Icelandic Coast Guard over noise from military flights through Keflavík Airport, mbl.is reports.

The Coast Guard said Keflavík Airport serves both military and civilian aviation, but military flights were not included in the area’s noise calculations.

As a result, actual noise levels could be higher than shown on noise maps. However, numerical data on noise levels and the frequency of military flights are not available.
