A 19-year-old man was under the influence of alcohol when he caused a fatal collision north of Holstebro on Sunday morning, DR reports from the preliminary court hearing at Holstebro Court.
The crash killed a married couple after the driver, measured at 0.5 per mille, overtook several cars in the emergency lane, ran a red light at the end of the motorway, and struck their vehicle from behind at a junction.
Witnesses reported seeing him drive at speeds near 200 km/h. His black Audi was thrown across the intersection, ejecting him from the vehicle.
The driver is currently in the intensive care unit at Aarhus University Hospital with multiple fractures, including a hip and shoulder requiring surgery today. He is being monitored for internal injuries and is expected to remain hospitalised for about a week.
