Woman hospitalised after cutting wasp in half during shrimp meal

A shrimp dinner turned into a medical emergency for Betina Siebrandt (66) after she cut a wasp in half with her knife and continued eating, Dagbladet reports.

Siebrandt told Gudbrandsdølen Dagningen that within minutes, her tongue swelled severely. She suspected either the stinger or venom on the knife triggered the reaction.

With a known family history of severe wasp allergies—her father was extremely allergic, and she herself was hospitalised 30 years ago—she was admitted to Lillehammer Hospital, where staff treated her as a priority case.

After observation until midnight, she was discharged with an EpiPen. Siebrandt praised the hospital’s rapid and serious response.
