Finland’s long-running legal dispute over compensation for narcolepsy linked to the Pandemrix swine-flu vaccine has concluded after the Helsinki Court of Appeal issued its final rulings.
The Finnish Pharmaceutical Insurance Pool had rejected part of the compensation claims. In 2022 the Helsinki District Court ordered the pool to pay damages to several claimants.
Both the pool and the claimants appealed to the Court of Appeal. Some claimants sought higher court-awarded legal costs, but the appeals were rejected during summer 2025. Other claimants had already settled with the pool through court mediation. The Court of Appeal delivered its judgments in autumn 2024; no party sought leave to appeal to the Supreme Court.
