Father charged with negligent homicide after infant found dead in Bergen

A man has been charged with negligent homicide after a lifeless infant was found in Bergen, according to Vest police district.

The man is the father of the child. Emergency services responded to a report of an unresponsive baby at a Bergen address early Thursday morning, Vest police district stated.

Upon arrival, first responders immediately began cardiopulmonary resuscitation, but the child was declared dead shortly afterward, operations leader Morten Rebnord noted in the police log.

A man present at the residence was detained by police. Rebnord confirmed no external injuries were found on the child.

Police are investigating the case as a suspicious death to determine the cause and circumstances. Authorities received the initial report at 06:21 from someone inside the home, though Rebnord declined to specify their relationship to the child or disclose further details about the charges, citing the ongoing investigation and consideration for the family.
