Daycare centres in the Faroe Islands may be fined for failing to address inadequate weather conditions that force staff to work in noisy and disruptive environments, according to a report by Faroese public broadcaster KVF.

Mirjam Johannesen, head of Sólareygað daycare in Tórshavn Municipality, highlighted the issue, noting that noise levels from 8:30 AM to 5 PM create a stressful environment. She acknowledged that while efforts are being made—such as installing sound-absorbing panels in some facilities—the problem persists across many centres, possibly due to prioritisation.

Tummas Pauli Juul, a department head at the Faroese Working Environment Authority, emphasised the need for structured safety committees in workplaces to address such issues. He noted that without formal discussion, problems remain unresolved, leaving staff to raise concerns themselves.

The authority encourages employers to utilise its guidelines on psychosocial work environments.
