A car crashed into the exterior wall of a K-Supermarket in Helsinki’s Munkkivuori district on Tuesday afternoon, causing structural damage but no injuries, according to public broadcaster Yle.
The collision, which occurred shortly after 4 p.m., pushed in part of the store’s outer wall and window, displacing a refrigerated shelf inside. Some chilled products fell to the floor and were destroyed, and the cooling unit itself was damaged.
Store manager Pauli Jaakola told Yle he had left the premises just 10 minutes earlier after finishing his shift. Upon hearing of the incident, he returned immediately. Staff cleared the aisle and removed damaged goods, and a refrigeration technician was called to check for coolant leaks. No leak was found, but a quarter of the shelf remains out of use due to uncertainty over its ability to stay cold.
Police are investigating the incident as gross endangerment of traffic safety. Authorities confirmed no one was injured. Jaakola said witness accounts suggest the driver was attempting to park when the accident occurred, and he suspects human error.
