Greenhouse gas emissions from road transport in Iceland have increased despite a sharp rise in the number of electric cars, mbl.is reports.

Jean-Rémi Chareyre, a freelance journalist specialising in climate and energy issues, said figures from the Icelandic National Energy Authority show that fossil fuel use in road transport increased between 2024 and 2025. Direct greenhouse gas emissions rose during the same period.

Further details were published on page 10 of Saturday’s Morgunblaðið.
