In its proposal for a new self-government arrangement for the Faroe Islands, which the party calls “New Connection,” the Union Party does not incorporate the judiciary. This omission is puzzling to Høgni Hoydal, chairman of the Republican Party and Minister of Foreign Affairs.

“It is a regression to create a system where we state that the courts will not be Faroese,” Hoydal expressed.

Despite their differences, the Union Party and the Republican Party agree on the need to request extended foreign policy powers when they approach the Danish government, Hoydal noted.
