Marius Rein, a technician at Faroese national broadcaster Útvarp Føroya, pulled the final plug from the old broadcasting console at Bryggjubakka on 2 July 1981, permanently shutting down transmissions from the cramped, outdated building in Tórshavn, reports Kringvarp Føroya.
The moment marked a significant shift in Faroese media history, as the station relocated from its long-time home in Sortudíki to new facilities.
