All Faroese municipalities must now have certified rat inspectors under new regulations that took effect this week, according to a report by KVF.

The new rules, outlined in an updated rat control decree, require improved organisation and documentation of rat inspection and prevention work, said Eyðdis Hartmann Niclasen, the minister of health and energy.

The previous 2017 decree lacked requirements for certified inspectors, though such personnel already existed, she noted. The updated regulations clarify that only certified inspectors may conduct official rat assessments, such as in gardens.

Strict rules on rat-free islands remain unchanged. The designated islands and islets include Fugloy, Svínoy, Kalsoy, Nólsoy, Hestur, Koltur, Sandoy, Mykines, Skúgvoy, Stóra Dímun, Lítla Dímun, Mykineshólmur, Trøllhøvdi, Tindhólmur, and Gáshólmur.
