A Tampere man who believed he had been scammed after buying a camera stabilizer through Tori.fi’s Toridiili service has received his package, Yle reports.
Joonas Houni paid €720 for the gimbal in spring, but the parcel never arrived. He suspected fraud, noting that sellers could exploit a loophole by reserving a parcel locker slot without actually depositing an item.
Matkahuolto, Finland’s national parcel service, confirmed such scams are possible but rare. Drivers are trained to report empty lockers, and failures to do so have allowed isolated cases of fraud.
This week, however, Matkahuolto located the missing package. According to Kati Nevalainen, head of Matkahuolto’s parcel services, the seller had accidentally written the wrong tracking number on the parcel, causing the delivery failure.
“This is the most common reason packages go missing,” Nevalainen said. The mislabeled parcel was sent to Matkahuolto’s investigation center, where it was identified by the seller’s description—helped by its distinctive wrapping in two Lidl plastic bags.
Houni has now received the package. Matkahuolto had already compensated him for the loss and will revisit the payment. “The worry about a scam turned out to be unfounded. I’m glad my intuition was wrong this time,” Houni told Yle.
