Heatwave approaching Norway after scorching southern Europe
A heatwave sweeping through southern Europe is expected to reach Norway by the weekend, with temperatures in Spain and France already exceeding 40°C in places, Dagbladet reports.
Meteorologist Leonidas Tsopouridis told NTB that the warm period in Norway could last until the end of next week. The heatwave, originating from southwestern Europe, has seen extreme conditions, with France recording 44°C in June—a figure likely to be matched again. Spain may also set new temperature records.
Norwegian tourists in coastal areas of Spain and France can expect around 35°C, though high humidity may make it feel hotter. Tsopouridis advises staying in the shade, avoiding outdoor activity between 15:00 and 16:00, swimming earlier or later in the day, and drinking water.
As the heatwave moves toward Norway, temperatures may reach 30°C in parts of Østlandet by the weekend. For an official heatwave classification in Norway, temperatures must exceed 27°C for five consecutive days—a threshold so far met only in Kongsberg and Nelaug.
