Global interest in Finnish armored vehicle as Scata prepares new model
Finnish defense manufacturer Scata has drawn worldwide attention for its armored MK1 vehicle, unveiled at the Eurosatory defense exhibition in Paris last month, the company told Yle.
Governments in Europe, the Middle East, and East Asia, as well as oil and mining firms, have expressed interest, though no orders have yet been placed, according to Scata CEO Viktor Ekman.
“There were no orders, but a lot of interest. Our situation after the fair is extremely positive,” Ekman said.
The modular armored vehicle combines a French KNDS Mobility chassis with Finnish components such as glass, lighting, and metal materials. Its engine is assembled in England.
Series production is set to begin in the company’s Pietarsaari plant in 2027, with initial assembly likely to stay local, though Ekman said production could later shift based on buyer agreements. At full capacity, Scata expects to produce 6–12 units per month.
Scata also plans to unveil an entirely new defensive vehicle model this autumn, distinct from the MK1 but still under development.
