Police in Trøndelag are continuing the search for a man in his 70s reported missing Friday, according to Dagbladet.
The man was last in contact with relatives Thursday evening. Authorities received the missing person report at 15:53 on Friday.
“We were notified at 15:53 by the man’s family,” operations leader Stian Martinsen Aalberg told Adresseavisen. “It’s 10 degrees and raining—very harsh conditions. There are several mountain peaks over 1,000 meters in the area.”
Police located the man’s car Friday evening but do not know when he left it. The search continued through the night and resumed Saturday morning, operations leader Øystein Sagen told Dagbladet.
As of Saturday morning, the man had been missing for nearly 18 hours.
“A police helicopter is en route from Oslo to assist today,” Sagen said. “We are deploying significant resources and will keep searching until we find him.”
The man had been using a hiking app, which has provided police with a starting point for the search. Around 70 volunteers from local organizations are assisting with ATVs, drones, and boats, Trønder-Avisa reported.
Police have asked unorganized volunteers to avoid the area but, if they insist on joining, to wear a high-visibility vest.
