A Finnish team has won the Sunstead Hack event in Levi after developing a method to detect potential security vulnerabilities in software before the code is even written.
The winning group, FR8 M8, consisting of Eppu Riihelä, Lassi Riihelä, and Jimi Koivisto, created an AI tool that can identify entirely new vulnerabilities, according to team member Lassi Riihelä. He noted that while many companies have attempted similar solutions, none have succeeded until now. The team believes their method has significant market potential, as it can analyze AI-generated code for flaws that could lead to future data breaches.
The Sunstead Hack hackathon, reported by Yle, brought together 80 students from across Europe to tackle AI-related challenges in teams of three. Participants had 24 hours to solve problems posed by challenge partners, with the Finnish team spending roughly 19 hours coding, leaving time for rest.
