Water utility urges residents to conserve as levels hit record low
A water utility in Vejle has urged residents to cut back on usage after demand surged during Denmark’s hottest recorded day, pushing storage to unprecedented lows.
Peter Christensen, operations manager at Fjeldvigs Vandværk, sent a text message to customers asking them to use water more sparingly, warning that supplies were running dangerously low.
“Strong request to save water, as we are running out,” the message read. Christensen said the utility’s treated water reserves had never been so depleted, and without a reduction in consumption, the system risked failing.
Since the appeal, usage has dropped slightly, allowing the plant to keep pace with demand, he said. The utility serves 1,648 households.
