Brikk’s Norðurbakki location in Hafnarfjörður is expected to remain closed for seven to 10 days after a fire broke out in a pot in the kitchen on Monday evening, mbl.is reported.
Einar Benediktsson, the company’s managing director and a co-owner, said cleaning began on Tuesday morning. Work still needs to be done to clear smoke and repair the premises, but he said the business hoped to reopen within seven to 10 days. The timeline was expected to become clearer by the end of the day.
Benediktsson said the fire was an accident and was confined to one part of the premises.
He described the timing as unfortunate, saying the business had major projects planned for Pink Day on Wednesday and that the Norðurbakki location was its flagship. He said the closure was disappointing but could provide an opportunity to refresh the premises.
Brikk has four other locations: in Kársnes and on Dalvegur in Kópavogur, and on Háteigsvegur and in Skeifan in Reykjavík.
