A new shuttle bus route with just two stops has been introduced to ferry young footballers between pitches and a nearby lake during a heatwave at a three-day youth tournament in Sejs-Svejbæk, central Denmark, DR reports.
The bus allows children aged 8–13 to cool off in the lake between matches, according to Janus Højgaard, chair of the local football club’s youth section. With temperatures nearing 30°C, organisers have also set up extra tents, pavilions, and DIY cooling stations with water mist for players.
Hydration breaks have been added to matches, despite their short duration of two 15-minute halves. Højgaard said no teams or coaches had requested cancellation, and the club is following Danish Football Association guidelines for extreme weather.
