The Faroese Symphony Orchestra will perform informal summer concerts in Fuglafjørður and Tórshavn tonight and tomorrow, breaking from traditional classical formats, Kringvarp Føroya reports.
Conductor Hans Petur í Brekkunum said the orchestra has adopted a new concept for these performances, shortening the usual program to about one hour and featuring lighter, shorter pieces. In Fuglafjørður, the event will take the form of a café concert, with audience members seated at tables near the orchestra, able to enjoy coffee or wine during the performance.
The idea originated from Mentanarhúsið in Fuglafjørður, where í Brekkunum and the orchestra’s new conductor, Catherine Larsen-Maguire, met with local leader Jón Tyril. “If people think classical concerts are formal, this is a way to loosen things up and make them more informal,” í Brekkunum said.
Tonight’s concert begins at 20:00 in Fuglafjørður’s Mentanarhúsið, followed by tomorrow’s 16:00 performance at Hátún in Tórshavn.
