Apartment construction at Runavík’s harbour site has been delayed due to multiple setbacks, including disputes over the location and difficulties securing necessary materials, builder Jóan Petur Vang told Faroese broadcaster KVF.
Vang took over the project to build 45 owner-occupied apartments in two phases at the harbour a year ago, with the first units originally expected to be completed by now. Eighteen workers are currently employed full-time on the project, supplemented by additional temporary labour as needed.
The insurance company LÍV, which has already purchased the first 18 apartments, plans to begin construction on its own housing project in Argir within a month. The remaining 27 units in Runavík are set to go on sale in August or September.
A larger project in Leitinum, involving 130–150 rental apartments and space for a kindergarten, was also scheduled to begin once the harbour site work was finished. However, the delay in Runavík has now pushed back the Leitinum timeline as well.
