Sweden’s climate and environment minister, Romina Pourmokhtari, brought her three-month-old son Adam to an EU ministerial meeting on climate policy on Thursday, reports SVT.
Pourmokhtari said she wanted to demonstrate that it is possible to balance work and family responsibilities, provided one has a supportive partner. She highlighted Sweden’s parental leave system, which does not force women to choose between career and family.
According to a Reuters report cited by SVT, this is the first time a baby has been brought to such a meeting. The moment has drawn international attention, including from CNN and Spain’s climate minister, Sara Aagesen, who praised Pourmokhtari on social media.
