Denmark received over 17 million small packages from outside the EU last year
Danish customs processed more than 17 million import declarations for packages valued under 150 euros in 2025, according to a new report from the Danish Customs Agency (Toldstyrelsen) cited by DR.
The figure marks a sharp rise from 3.5 million declarations in 2024, with over 90 percent of the packages originating from China. Christian Lützen, director of the Danish Customs Agency, described the increase as “extremely steep,” noting a near fivefold surge in shipments, particularly from Chinese e-commerce platforms.
In response, a new EU tariff takes effect on 1 July, introducing a minimum 3 euro (approximately 22 DKK) duty on non-EU packages valued under 150 euros. Lützen stated the measure aims to curb the influx of potentially unsafe or counterfeit goods while ensuring fair competition for European businesses.
In 2025, Danish customs seized over 2,600 clothing items that failed to meet safety standards or were suspected counterfeits.
