No surveillance cameras cover the site in Time municipality where a six-year-old boy was struck and killed by a car on Wednesday, police said.
In a statement, Sørvest police district asked drivers to check dashcam recordings and contact authorities if they have footage or information about the incident.
The boy was cycling in a residential area on Kvernaland when he was hit shortly after 15:00. He was taken to Stavanger University Hospital but was pronounced dead a short time later.
Police have seized the driver’s licence, car, and mobile phone. The driver has been questioned, along with several witnesses. A neighbourhood canvass has also been conducted.
“We cannot disclose details of what they have stated. The case is still in its early stages, and we are working to clarify the sequence of events,” said police prosecutor Christine Nessa.
She added there is no suspicion of impairment, but a blood test has been taken and results will take several days.
Time municipality announced an open church service at Kvernaland from 18:00 to 20:00 on Thursday, with the municipal psychosocial crisis team present. Varaordfører Gaute Stokka said the community was deeply affected by the tragedy.
