Christian Democrats leader Ebba Busch said Sweden’s governing coalition has focused too much on the past term rather than the future, as she presented her party’s demands for post-election support ahead of Almedalsveckan in Visby.

Busch, speaking to SVT, said welfare and ordinary families must be prioritised, while ruling out major tax cuts—a stance at odds with the Moderates’ election pledge.

“The next four years will not be the four big tax-cut years,” she said. “There is an exaggerated belief on the right that economic and wallet issues are what win elections.”

She acknowledged recent polls showing the Tidö parties trailing the opposition, attributing it to excessive focus on “final accounting” of the past term. “There is reason for self-examination,” Busch said.

She added that Sweden needs leadership that avoids unnecessary conflict but can still address divisions when needed. “The Swedish people are demanding a different kind of political leadership—one that is clear about distinctions, willing to take conflict when necessary, but also able to engage across party lines in these turbulent times.”
