Norway braces for 30°C heat and tropical nights
Norway’s southern and eastern regions are set for a sharp rise in temperatures this week, with forecasts predicting highs above 30°C, according to the Norwegian Meteorological Institute.
Meteorologist Charalampos Sarchosidis told NTB that fine weather is expected across the week, particularly in Sør- and Østlandet. “Many haven’t been happy with the summer weather so far, but now proper heat is on the way,” he said. “It won’t reach 40°C like in southern Europe, but it will be warmer than we’ve had recently.”
The highest temperatures, potentially exceeding 30°C, are expected inland in Agder on Wednesday, and in Telemark and possibly Buskerud on Thursday. Oslo and other parts of Sør- and Østlandet may see 27–28°C.
Monday and Tuesday will start milder, with 23–25°C, but sunny conditions will dominate. Sea temperatures are also rising, with Oslo’s waters already at 19°C—ideal for swimming. “Many will take their first dip now,” Sarchosidis noted, adding that tropical nights and the first official tropical day (30°C or above) are likely by the weekend.
Western Norway will see mixed conditions, with Rogaland faring best and Bergen expecting scattered sun and 16–19°C. Northern regions, including Trondheim, face cloudy and rainy weather, while Tromsø may see 10–12°C with showers—conditions Sarchosidis described as “autumn-like.”
