Wolf culling in Oksbøl extended by eight weeks
Danish authorities have extended a wolf culling permit for private landowners in Oksbøl by eight weeks, according to national broadcaster DR.
The original one-month permit, issued in late May, was set to expire on 22 June. However, officials determined that at least one wolf in the area has lost its natural fear of humans, posing ongoing safety concerns.
Christian Rabjerg Madsen, Denmark’s minister for nature and animal welfare, stated that public safety takes priority. “For me, the security of the people of Oksbøl comes before the wolf,” he said, adding that the extension is necessary to address the issue.
The decision has faced criticism, including from the advocacy group Ulvetid, which argues the culling is not the right solution. The minister dismissed the criticism, insisting the extension is justified due to wolves approaching humans too closely and causing significant unease.
