Midsummer outbound traffic peaks today

Outbound traffic for Midsummer is at its busiest today, according to the Finnish Traffic Agency’s road traffic centre.

In southern Finland, traffic intensifies after 11:00 and peaks between 14:00 and 18:00. In northern Finland, heavy outbound traffic continues late into the evening. Some outbound movement will persist into Friday morning, easing by the afternoon.

Congestion is expected to be worst on exit routes from the Helsinki region. On the busiest stretches nationwide, speeds may drop to as low as 20–30 km/h.

Police will monitor traffic on both roads and waterways. Return traffic will begin on Sunday, which, though lighter than outbound, may still cause delays.
