Train services between Helsinki and Tampere are delayed by up to an hour or more due to a damaged cable struck by an excavator during railway maintenance, Finnish transport agency Fintraffic reports.

All high-speed and commuter trains on the route have been affected, with some cancellations. The incident occurred during work that had already reduced the Helsinki–Riihimäki section to single-track operation in places.

As of 17:00 local time, repairs were estimated to take one to two hours, with normal service expected to resume one to three hours after the fix.
