Crown Princess Mette-Marit receives lung transplant
Crown Princess Mette-Marit of Norway has undergone a successful lung transplant at Rikshospitalet in Oslo, Dagbladet reports.
The 52-year-old was placed on the transplant waiting list on 5 June due to pulmonary fibrosis. Hospital officials confirmed the procedure had gone well, with the princess expected to remain hospitalised for several weeks for medication adjustments, monitoring, and rehabilitation.
Political leaders, including KrF’s Dag Inge Ulstein, FrP’s Sylvi Listhaug, Sp’s Trygve Slagsvold Vedum, and Stortingspresident Masud Gharahkhani, issued statements wishing her a full recovery. Høyre leader Ine Eriksen Søreide noted the operation would demand significant recovery time.
Thoracic surgery department head Arnt Fiane and lung department head Are Holm thanked the medical team involved in the transplant.
