Man killed near popular Randers meeting spot
A 20-year-old man was found dead in the Gudenå River near Den Blå Bro in Randers early Friday, Danish broadcaster DR reports.
Two teenagers, aged 16 and 18, have been arrested and charged with his murder. Police said none of the three had prior criminal records of note.
The area around the bridge, a green space with picnic tables and a playground, is a well-known gathering spot for young people and families. Britt Mortensen, local chair of the Natteravnene night patrol, described it as a place where youth often socialise on weekends.
“It’s usually a lovely sight here—we meet so many kind, happy young people,” Mortensen said. She added that while the area can get lively in summer, with music and litter, she had never considered it unsafe.
Residents expressed shock at the killing. Sabrina Karma and Jennifer Engelsfelt, who frequently visit with their children, said the incident had made them uneasy.
“I caught myself looking at the water’s edge. It’s unsettling,” Karma said. Engelsfelt added: “It quickly becomes uncomfortable to walk through an area where a murder has happened.”
Others echoed the sentiment. Teddy Sangua Katompwa called the killing tragic, noting the victim was young and not involved in gangs. “He had his whole life ahead of him,” he said.
Mortensen said Natteravnene would increase their presence in the coming days to support affected youth. “Many are upset. We expect a lot of questions.”
