Finns consumed more fish, cheese, pork, and poultry last year, according to preliminary data from the Natural Resources Institute Finland (Luke).

On average, each Finn consumed 127 kg of liquid dairy products, 78 kg of meat, 86 kg of grain, just over 14 kg of fish, 12 kg of eggs, 50 kg of fruit, and 65 kg of vegetables in 2025.

Overall meat consumption fell by about 0.2 kg compared to the previous year. However, pork consumption rose by roughly 2% after two years of decline. Poultry consumption continued its long-term growth, though the increase in 2025 was under 1%. Finns ate an estimated 30.9 kg of poultry per capita.

Luke notes that meat consumption figures are calculated as uncooked, bone-in weight, not as ready-to-eat portions. The data reflects the amount available for consumption, not actual intake.

Grain and oat consumption continued to decline, with total grain consumption at about 86.2 kg per person, down 1 kg from the previous year.

Cheese saw the most significant increase, reaching a record 27 kg per capita—the highest in the history of Luke’s food balance sheets. Fish consumption also rose, while liquid dairy product consumption dropped by about 2.6%.

Fresh fruit consumption increased, with Finns eating about 50 kg per person, while fresh vegetable consumption was around 64.5 kg per capita.
