The Strängnäs diocese chapter is examining whether Birgitta Ed’s conduct, as revealed in an Aftonbladet investigation, aligns with her priestly vows, Dagens Arena reports.
Multiple complaints have been filed with the diocese following the newspaper’s report on Ed, who is married to Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson, and her foundation on Fållökna island. The chapter is now assessing whether the allegations warrant disciplinary action against Ed, an ordained priest.
Diocesan legal counsel Lotta Lind told Dagens Arena the complaints relate to media reports and whether Ed’s actions comply with priestly vows, including upholding church order and fulfilling her duties to strengthen the church and enact God’s will.
The Aftonbladet investigation involved a reporter working undercover as a volunteer for the Fållökna foundation, with experts highlighting potential conflicts of interest and corruption risks tied to promises of networking opportunities for participants.
