Harry Krueger opens new Helsinki studio Cosmic Division
Veteran game developer Harry Krueger has left Housemarque to found his own studio, Cosmic Division, in Helsinki, reports Yle.
Krueger, the former creative director at Housemarque, spent 15 years at the Finnish studio, contributing to acclaimed titles such as Returnal and Resogun. His new venture will focus on thought-provoking games, with a team capped at 50 people. The studio’s first title is expected in a few years.
Born in Australia and raised on the Greek island of Kefalonia, Krueger began his career in Japan before moving to Finland after meeting his partner. He described his initial cultural shock in Finland—including an early introduction to snow shoveling—but quickly grew fond of the country and its tight-knit game development community, rooted in the demoscene of the 1980s.
Krueger said he realized during a break from Housemarque that he had not yet made his final game. With no existing studio aligning with his vision, he decided to create his own. Cosmic Division aims to build a lean, efficient team dedicated to crafting memorable, gameplay-driven experiences.
“This is practically my third job in the industry, and I want it to be my last,” Krueger said. “I want to build sustainable practices, find the right people, and choose the right projects.”
