A section of Iceland’s Ring Road beneath Eyjafjöll will close from 5 a.m. Wednesday until at least 9 a.m. because of a severe weather forecast, mbl.is reports. The closure will run from Heimaland by Markarfljót to Freysnes.
The Icelandic Road and Coastal Administration said the closure would be a “soft closure,” with staffed checkpoints in the area. Uncertainty alerts are also in effect for several other roads around the country.
The Icelandic Meteorological Office has updated its warnings for Wednesday, adding South Iceland and Breiðafjörður to the areas under orange alerts. Orange alerts had already been issued for the Westfjords, Strandir and Northwest Iceland. A yellow alert remains in effect for the capital region.
