A fifth of Finnish children aged 10–14 play digital games multiple times a day during summer break, according to a December survey on youth leisure habits. One-third play daily or nearly daily.

Many mobile and computer games include purchase mechanisms such as surprise boxes, chests, or card packs that yield virtual items—obtainable through gameplay or real-money transactions. Small individual sums can quickly accumulate into significant expenses.

Yle is preparing a story and invites parents to share their experiences: How often does your child make in-game purchases? How much money has been spent? Have concerns or family discussions arisen?

Responses can be submitted via an online form or sent directly to reporter Hanna Terävä at [email protected]. All submissions will be used only with permission, and Yle will not share contact details externally.
