Man sentenced to nearly four years for Tampere stabbing
A 19-year-old man has been sentenced to three years and eight months in prison by Pirkanmaa District Court for the attempted murder of a young man in his 20s.
The attack took place outside a restaurant near Tampere’s Keskustori square during a weekend night in March. The court found that the defendant struck the victim in the face and stabbed him in the side, with the intent to kill, understanding that the knife wound could likely be fatal.
The man denied being the stabber, claiming he only took possession of the knife after the assault and attempted to dispose of it by throwing it into a nearby trash bin. The court rejected his account.
In addition to the prison term, he was ordered to pay nearly €6,000 in compensation to the victim for suffering, pain, and permanent cosmetic damage.
An 18-year-old man was also convicted in the same case, receiving a fine for aggravated assault after admitting to striking the victim in the face. Police have not commented on the motive or the relationship between the suspects and the victim.
The 19-year-old has a prior history of violent crime, including convictions for aggravated robbery and aggravated deprivation of liberty. The ruling is not yet final.
