Meyer Turku shipyard now supports more than 10,000 jobs nationwide, according to a new study by the University of Turku, with its economic impact extending far beyond the southwest region through a network of over 1,100 suppliers.

The shipyard’s workforce has grown to 2,400 employees, while its total employment effect—including indirect and induced jobs—exceeds 10,000, researchers Mikko Grönlund and Tuomas Ranti stated in a release issued by the City of Turku. The study, commissioned by the city and Meyer Turku, confirms the yard’s role as a key driver of Finland’s industrial activity.

In 2025 alone, the shipyard’s operations engaged 1,146 supplier companies, of which 755 were domestic, accounting for over 70 percent of total procurement by value. The largest domestic impacts were concentrated in Southwest Finland and Uusimaa, though effects reached every region. Poland and Germany ranked as the top foreign supplier countries, with total procurement valued at approximately €1.45 billion.

Domestic content in the shipyard’s supply chain has risen from 60 percent to over 70 percent, a trend expected to continue as production shifts further to Finland, said Meyer Turku CEO Casimir Lindholm. The company’s €200 million investment program aims to bolster competitiveness and retain more value within the country.

Beyond direct industrial activity, the shipyard’s operations generate demand for housing, education, transport, and services, indirectly strengthening regional vitality. The University of Turku has tracked the yard’s economic footprint since 2017, with each successive study underscoring its growing significance as an employment and industrial hub.

The latest vessel under construction, the Legend of the Seas—the third in Meyer’s Icon-class series—completed sea trials in April 2026.
