A landslide up to 30 metres wide has buried a section of the E6 highway near Nordnes in Kåfjord, Troms, forcing an indefinite closure, police confirmed Sunday afternoon.

The slide, triggered by the overflowing Huppaselva river, swept large volumes of earth across the road, creating significant debris buildup on both sides, operations manager Christian Andreassen wrote in the police log. Authorities have no indication that anyone was caught in the slide.

Police are en route to the site and will deploy a drone to capture aerial imagery for geological assessment of further risk, Andreassen told Dagbladet at 13:35. “As soon as the area is declared safe, cleanup operations will begin,” he stated, though he could not estimate when the road might reopen.

The landslide follows heavy rainfall in the region, with the Huppaselva river breaching its banks and undermining the surrounding terrain.
