The police are continuing their investigation into the collapse of a mobile phone mast that occurred overnight on Sunday in Janakkala. Such incidents are rare, but a similar case was reported by Hämeen Sanomat in 2005, when another mast was toppled just about 10 kilometers from the current site. The method of destruction was the same in both instances.
The 2005 case has several similarities with the ongoing investigation into the recent mast collapse. According to Hämeen Sanomat, the mast that fell back then was located between the neighborhoods of Ruununmylly and Mäskälä in Hämeenlinna, approximately ten kilometers from the site of the newly collapsed mast in Janakkala. In both cases, the mast was brought down by cutting the supporting guy wires.
In the 2005 incident, an 86-meter tall mast lost about 18 meters of height. In contrast, the mast that collapsed in Janakkala has completely fallen over into the forest. It remains unclear whether the individuals responsible for the 2005 mast collapse were ever apprehended.
Further information can be found on the serious damage caused by the Janakkala mast’s fall and the potential consequences for those involved.
