Bergen’s Gaptrast was awarded a second Michelin star on Monday, becoming one of only four Norwegian restaurants to hold more than one star, Dagbladet reports.

The upgrade came during this year’s Michelin Nordic Cities ceremony, held on the birthday of Gaptrast head chef Kristian Bretten Vangen. Four other Norwegian restaurants received their first stars: Mirabelle in Austevoll, led by Bocuse d’Or winner Ørjan Johannessen; Oslo’s Credo, with Heidi Bjerkan at the helm; and Kvitnes Gård in Vesterålen, where Halvar Ellingsen heads the kitchen.

Mirabelle marks Norway’s first Michelin-starred restaurant outside its five largest cities.

Oslo’s three-star Maaemo and Stavanger’s Re-Naa—the country’s only other three-star establishments—retained their top ratings. Kontrast in Oslo kept its two stars, while 17 one-star restaurants from previous years were reassessed. All remain concentrated in Oslo, Bergen, Trondheim, Stavanger, or Kristiansand.

Rudimante Belardi Galeone, wine director at Maaemo, received this year’s Michelin Sommelier Award.

Earlier this year, Oslo’s one-star Hot Shop and Bar Amour announced closures, while the floating Iris in Hardangerfjord temporarily shut in January to redevelop its concept, furloughing 13 staff.

Michelin has published its Nordic guide annually since 2015. Three stars denote a destination worthy of a dedicated journey; two stars signal a detour-worthy experience; one star marks a restaurant worth visiting.
