Foreign criminals are repeatedly linked to large-scale drug trafficking in the Faroe Islands, with many cases tied to organised crime in Denmark, according to Kári Jacobsen, head of the criminal investigation unit at the Faroese police.

Jacobsen told public broadcaster KVF that threats and violence are increasingly common in major drug cases, noting that three people are currently in pre-trial detention in the territory’s largest cocaine investigation to date.

At least five kilograms of cocaine have been smuggled into the Faroe Islands, with the bulk later distributed locally. The street price for cocaine stands at 1,800 DKK per gram—the highest on the market—compared to 300 DKK for a gram of hashish. In the current case, the seized cocaine could be worth up to 9 million DKK.
