The Faroese parliament, Løgtingið, has approved a bill introducing a monthly rent subsidy of up to 1,500 krona for low-income households, Faroese public broadcaster KVF reports. The measure, passed in a 27–1 vote after its second reading, will take effect on 1 September if final approval is granted in a third reading scheduled for Thursday.
Under the scheme, eligible households can receive up to 20 percent of their rent reimbursed, with the subsidy phased out based on income. Single adults earning no more than 350,000 krona annually qualify for the full subsidy, which reduces by 5 percent for every krona earned above that threshold. For two-adult households, the income limit rises to 500,000 krona, with the subsidy similarly tapered. The benefit cuts off entirely for single adults earning over 638,000 krona and for two-adult households exceeding 788,000 krona.
The national social services agency, Almannaverkið, will administer the subsidy, with applications processed through its offices.
