Over 70 meteorologists from across the Nordic countries, Germany, and the UK are meeting in Tórshavn this week for the Nordic Meteorological Meeting, hosted by the Faroese Meteorological Office.
The three-day conference, opening Wednesday, aims to strengthen collaboration among researchers and institutions focused on weather patterns in northern and Arctic regions. Participants include national weather services, universities, the Swedish military, and private firms working in renewable energy and climate advisory services.
Bárður á Steig Nielsen, a Faroese government minister, will formally open the event. First held in 1960, the conference has since alternated biennially between Nordic locations—this marks its first session in the Faroe Islands, though Faroese meteorologists attended the 2024 meeting in Copenhagen.
