Sweden’s student aid board, CSN, is demanding repayments from nearly 14,000 people who exceeded income thresholds while receiving financial support during their studies, public broadcaster SVT reports.

The average repayment demand stands at nearly 29,000 kronor (about €2,500), with total claims exceeding 400 million kronor (€35 million). One individual earned nearly 90 million kronor (€7.7 million) in 2024—far above the allowable limit before aid reductions apply.

“Notify CSN if you earn more than your tax-free allowance,” said Joacim Strömblad, an investigator at the agency. “In most cases, we can adjust future payments to avoid repayment demands.”
