Swedish police have conducted 33 raids across the country in the past week as part of an intensified crackdown on the distribution of child sexual abuse material, state broadcaster SVT reports.
Authorities are deploying AI tools to scan file-sharing platforms for known abuse material, tracing uploads back to individuals. The technology has allowed police to scale up investigations, identifying and prosecuting those involved in spreading the content.
Lena Larsson of the National Operations Department’s unit against internet-related child sexual abuse said the circulation of such material perpetuates harm against victims. “Every time this material is shared, the abuse against the children is repeated—it’s a constant violation,” she stated in a press release.
The operation will continue with further searches and seizures. Police emphasize the term “abuse material” rather than “child pornography,” stressing that each image or video depicts real crimes against children.
